Townsville, 4 February 2007
Monsoon tropical dowpours. That's what we've been getting over the past few weeks. In one 24-hour period we watched 216 mm drench the marina. The local Burdekin dam (4 times the capacity of Sydney harbour) had 3 metres of water over the spillway, even the viewing platform was 2m under! The highway north and south is flooded, Townsville is green and illywhacker is clean - albeit with a few trickles making their way below. Finding and eliminating these has kept me busy when I have time away from care and maintenance duties at home.
