Diary · Wintering in Canada

25 Sep 2002: Nanaimo.

· Nanaimo

What a wonderful town this is. Highly in tune with our lifestyle, it sports more than the usual 2nd-hand stores, bookshops, music shops and art academies. The waterfront has beautiful walks and the people we've met are of the self-sufficient, can-do variety. Among those are the Winston and Carolynne Bushnell. They have built numerous steel boats, circumnavigated and have completed many Pacific passages. In the specially-built Dove III, Winston and 2 friends quietly completed the "holy grail" of cruises by traversing the Northwest Passage in 1995. They were the 4th yacht to do so in 1 season and the 56th vessel ever. They are a great family we were lucky to meet.
