Diary · Farewell, and a New Chapter

Airlie Beach 18 November 2009

· Airlie Beach

On the positive side, illywhacker has left her berth in Townsville and
has covered the princely distance of 150nm south towards Sydney.
Shamefully I have to report that my attention has been focussed on the
outcome rather than the basics of all cruising journeys - ensure you
have clean fuel. With a forecast of light northerlies, using the motor
most of the time was a certainty. As illywhacker has been languishing
with fuel in her tanks for 4 years she was bound to develop
contamination problems so I have no excuse. Around 0330 on the second
day the engine stopped and no amount of filter changing and bleeding
would start it. So after a kind passing yacht from Townsville towed us
to this marina, we now have the injector pump in for service. The
weather is perfect for the trip south so waiting here is frustrating -
something we'll need to get our head around.
