Sydney 18 May 2007
Reports from Townsville say the weather is perfect for cruising. Meanwhile, Sydney has been praying for rain and today it is happening - cold, grey and wet it is. We are squatting in a friend's house while they are away on a caravan trip. Thankfully, it'sin a great spot overlooking the Royal Motor Yacht Club - so we'refeeling at home. Life reveloves around Lyndall who is very weak and tired - she is most comfortable just lying down. We travel an hour braving Sydney traffic almost daily into hospital for palliative radiation treatment and collapse exhausted when we get back home. What a contrast from braving Aleutian storms! We were saddened to learn that our friend Dale on "Cowrie Dancer" suffered several knockdowns in the Southern ocean. He was on the final leg back to Perth on a southern circumnavigation when he suffered a bad break to his leg and hip. A second wave swept overboard the very crew member who saved him. Dale and the remaining 2 crew were taken aboard a ship with medical facilities some days later and on to Capetown. Cowrie Dancer was left behind. A sad event in an impressive cruising career and to a beautiful yacht. We are waiting to hear more details but our hearts go out to Dale, his family Liz, their son Jack and to the crew and their families.
