10 July 2003: Hawaii YC

· Hawaii YC

Our lines are still firmly tied to this marvellous spot. It'swarm but there is a constant breeze blowing through the boat under our big summer awning and I have just come back from the ice machine with a bucketful for our tropical guava juice cocktails. It'san ideal way to spend time in Honolulu - none of the hassle of Waikiki, which is next door but we're also right near the downtown area and the excellent bus system. At the same time we are isolated from the tourists out on this marina peninsular and almost surrounded by water. Hawaii is a real crossroads - we are amongst cruising yachts from around the world, all planning the next leg of their passage. A seasoned local cruiser said Hawaii is the greatest place for yachties, it's just 3 weeks from anywhere! We have made many new friends and have been wined and dined and driven around the island visiting scenic spots, chandlers etc. Our current thinking is to head for Tuvalu next week then Vanuatu before Townsville. This is the season of the best winds and the 2 of us should manage if we take it easy - we're getting plenty of practise at that here!
