More than Coastal Views
When the purpose of cruising is to see a new country, then taking economical trips inland seems to us to fall within the ambit of a cruising lifestyle. Many friends loaned us their vehicles or drove us around but in Alaska we were very fortunate in meeting John and Dolores Crowley who loaned us their "pickup" for a drive to California and return. That way we got to see a good deal of inland Alaska, Canada and the lower 48 - over 14,00 miles in fact. Click here to read that story.

As Australians, we seem to think that a real adventure means travelling to overseas destinations such as the mysterious "Far East", the steamy and remote regions of South America or the cities of Europe, rich in history and architecture. However, what we used to call our "cultural cringe" has these days been replaced with a national pride as we look at our homeland and realise that we have it all, right here. In fact Australia is a very large country, a continent in it's own right with so much to see that it would take a lifetime. Sailing around the perimeter is something we'd like to do but an easy alternative is to take overland excursions whenever we can.
