LIFESTYLE FOR SALE
INTRODUCTION
I just love being on illywhacker. Everything I see on and below decks reminds me of the life I've had aboard. Lyndall and I began our cruising dream in 1977, and illywhacker has been a part of our lives since then. It's been 16 years since I lost Lyndall, and I have now reached a point in my life where illywhacker needs to find a new owner—someone who will appreciate the unique qualities and lifestyle she offers.
In the mid-70s, cruising yacht design was based on the idea of living aboard permanently anywhere in the world. For that to be successful, the boat needed plenty of living space, be sea-kindly, and easy to maintain. illywhacker embodies these principles, with a ferrocement hull that has proven to be the perfect material for a cruising vessel. Despite the challenges of ocean cruising, illywhacker has remained immaculate, a testament to the durability of her construction.
During the build, Lyndall and I relocated to Papua New Guinea with the idea of building the internal fitout from local timbers there as well as earning a bit more to cover the increasing costs. Soon after our arrival though, we were introduced to a sparkling new fiberglass yacht that had just sailed in from Taiwan. It was remarkably cheap so we put illywhacker's construction on hold and seized the opportunity to buy one from Taiwan and sail it out to PNG. After 3 years of gaining familiarity with Dulcinea in PNG waters, we took a giant step into the unknown and circumnavigated the world with our family on board. The experience gained during those years led us to create a detailed compendium of ideas for our next boat, focusing on ease of maintenance and comfort for long-term living aboard.
Eventually, our journey led us back to illywhacker's unfinished hull, which we lovingly completed with the intention of spending the rest of our lives on board. Every aspect of illywhacker reflects the knowledge and experience we gathered over years of sailing, from the low-maintenance design to the thoughtful placement of deck hardware and a myriad of comfortable living features below deck..
illywhacker is more than just a boat—she is the culmination of a lifetime of cruising and a vessel ready for her next adventure with someone who understands the lifestyle she offers.
